Lydd Ladies made a flying start to their season with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Sittingbourne at Lindsey Field.

The hosts were on the front foot from the opening whistle, creating chances and putting the visitors under immediate pressure. It did not take long for Lydd to find the breakthrough.

Lydd turned defence into attack in the blink of an eye when Laing won possession on the edge of her own box. She found Chambers, who moved the ball on to Ahmed, and her defence-splitting pass sent Conceicao through on goal. The forward kept her composure to slot the ball past the keeper and put Lydd 1-0 ahead.

Lydd continued to dominate, with their defensive solidity giving the midfield freedom to produce some excellent passing football. Sittingbourne were afforded little time on the ball as the home side continued to create opportunities.

The second goal arrived in the 34th minute. Chambers won possession in midfield before Reynolds played the ball back to Laing. Her cross-field pass picked out Williams, whose effort was saved, but Ahmed reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.

Lydd almost added a third immediately after the restart when Conceicao raced between the centre-backs, only to see her effort drift narrowly wide.

She would not have to wait long, however. Just two minutes later, Ahmed’s relentless pressure forced the Sittingbourne defence into a clearance, which fell to Burren. Her diagonal pass found Conceicao between the centre-backs and the striker made no mistake, firing past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The second half continued in much the same fashion, with Lydd firmly in control.

Sittingbourne were hampered by injuries but continued to battle, while Lydd’s attacking play remained relentless.

A superb combination down the left between Williams and Conceicao opened up the visitors’ defence, with Conceicao finishing into the bottom corner to complete her hat-trick and put Lydd 4-0 ahead.

Lydd then moved through the gears again. A neat one-two between Colledge and Williams released Conceicao on the left, and her cross found Chambers. Her first effort was saved, but Chambers followed up to score from the rebound and make it 5-0

A quick throw down the right found Marshall who’s run down the wing resulted in a cracking cross which was met with a first time finish by Conceicao to score her 4th and Lydd’s 6th.

The scoring was completed when Colledge found Chambers, who released Burren. She fed Williams out wide before receiving the return pass just inside the box. Burren needed just one touch before firing past the keeper for her first goal for Lydd.

Final score: Lydd Ladies 7-0 Sittingbourne.

It was a superb all-round team performance from Lydd, combining defensive discipline, quick passing and clinical finishing. Every player played their part in an impressive opening-day display, giving the Ladies plenty to be proud of as they begin their campaign.
