A frustrating result, but the players can take a lot of positives from the performance.
We lost seven-one to the league leaders earlier in the season.
But today was a different story.
This was a good measure to see how far we have progressed this season.
A sloppy first few minutes nearly cost us, as Invicta had a couple of chances early on.
But Lydd grew into the game and frustrated the hosts.
By the end of half, Lydd were most likely to score out of the two teams.
Nil, nil at half time.
Second half and Invicta pushed Lydd back, but still not really creating much.
Then a well worked move down Lydd’s right resulted in Invicta taking the lead.
Lydd’s heads didn’t drop and they pressed for the equaliser.
But a mix up at the back gifted Invicta with a second !!
Lydd then went for broke with a change of formation and created a couple of clear cut chances. But couldn’t find the back of the net.
So final score two nil.
The players were very despondent at the end, but they shouldn’t be.
As I said at the top.
The progress this team is making is there for all to see, even if the results haven’t quite gone our way.
So we dust ourselves down, learn from today and go again next week
