A good performance from the Ladies , but they come away empty handed.
It was going to be a tough ask with four of the normal starters away for various reasons.
This meant Lydd started with a back three because of the players available , who hadn’t played as a unit together before.
Lydd kicked off and created a chance straight away.
Sellindge then created a few chances with their pace in attack. A good save by Harris and a last ditch tackle by Williams kept them out.
As the half went on, the defence grew in confidence and even though Sellindge created more chances, Williams, Moore & Stevenson grew in the game.
Lydd were now starting to create some chances of their own and test the home defence and keeper.
Reynolds and Chambers were breaking up play well and spreading the ball wide to either Bristow or Marshall on the wings.
Ahmed sitting just behind the front players was causing havoc.
One chance saw Conceicao though but her left foot shot went wide of the post. Intelligent running by Matthews saw her with a chance at the far post as well.
Just before half time , Lydd switched off from a throw in which Sellindge moved the ball quickly for their striker to finish in the top corner.
1-0 at half time.
Second half Lydd came out the blocks quickly and on 47 minutes a shot by Conceicao was spilled by the keeper, Bristow was on hand to pick up the loose ball and score 1-1.
Then as happens a lot in football.
Within a minute Sellindge had retaken the lead with a good move down Lydd’s left and the striker shot past Harris into the bottom corner 2-1.
Lydd pushed for the equaliser as they used the slope to their advantage. Reynolds sat in front of the defence to break up play. Chambers was everywhere and some great runs by Marshall & Bristow were creating chances for Matthews and Conceicao.
On 58 minutes good work by Ahmed saw another shot saved from Conceicao. This time Matthews was following up and put the rebound in to level 2-2.
The game was end to end with both teams looking for the winner.
Twenty minutes to go a free kick on the right was swung in.
It took a couple of bounces on the hard ground and evaded everyone to end up in the net 3-2 to Sellindge.
A change in personnel , Gennery & Covington on to give Lydd some fresh energy to get the equaliser.
Lydd did create enough to level the game, even with Sellindge dangerous on the break.
But it wasn’t to be.
I feel a draw would have been a fair result. But we know football isn’t always fair !!
Can’t fault the players today as their work rate and effort was fantastic.
We were beaten by a good team on the day.
Good luck to Sellindge for the rest of the season.
A positive is we have, no new injuries and everyone back for our semi final next weekend away to Hollands & Blair.
It would be great if we could get a big away support for the game.
