Lydd Town Ladies secured another three points in an eight-goal thriller at Lindsey Field, making it four wins from four with a 5–3 victory over Minster.
The Ladies got off to a sensational start, taking the lead after just 30 seconds.
Lloyd won possession and played the ball to Reynolds, whose pass into Chambers found Conceicao. Her lay-off fell perfectly for Ahmed, who made no mistake, firing past the keeper to give Lydd the perfect start.
Just two minutes later, Conceicao doubled the advantage. Lydd’s attack appeared to have been stopped, but Conceicao refused to give up, pressing the defender and winning the ball back inside the area before calmly slotting the ball into the net.
Barely a minute later, Conceicao struck again to complete a remarkable hat-trick inside just five minutes and put Lydd 3–0 up.
Marshall then delivered a superb cross which found Conceicao, who made no mistake, smashing the ball into the roof of the net to make it four.
And on seven minutes, Conceicao completed her incredible five-minute hat-trick — and added her fourth of the afternoon — to give Lydd a commanding 4–0 lead.
It was another excellent team goal. The ball began on the left before play was switched across to the right, where Marshall once again delivered a dangerous cross. Conceicao was on hand to meet it and make no mistake.
Minster responded on nine minutes, pulling a goal back with a free-kick from the edge of the box.
From there, Lydd began to lose some of the momentum and shape that had served them so well during the opening spell. That allowed Minster to grow into the contest and create opportunities of their own.
Lydd eventually restored their four-goal cushion on the half-hour mark, with Conceicao completing her personal tally for the afternoon.
Ahmed found Conceicao inside the box and she made no mistake, firing into the bottom corner to make it 5–1.
Minster refused to lie down, however, and had the final say of the first half. A ball over the top caught the Lydd defence out, allowing the Minster striker to race through and lob Harris, reducing the deficit to 5–2 at the interval.
The second half was a much more even affair, with Minster keeping the Lydd defence on their toes and creating considerably more chances.
Lydd continued to threaten at the other end, but the offside flag thwarted the home side on more than one occasion.
With ten minutes remaining, Minster found another route back into the game. A long-range free-kick from the right found its way into the net to make it 5–3 and set up an exciting finish.
Lydd, though, held their nerve and saw the game out to secure another valuable three points.
Final score: Lydd Town Ladies 5–3 Minster.
Andy Lane’s Thoughts
Reflecting on the performance, Andy Lane was delighted with the result and praised the team’s start.
“We got off to an amazing start and were unplayable for the first fifteen minutes.
“Then we started trying to do a bit too much with the ball at times.
“The players put in a fantastic shift again and gave everything as usual, with the standout players being Conceicao with her four goals and Laing covering everything thrown at her in defence.
“You’ve also got to give Minster a lot of credit. It would have been easy to just fold after that start, but they didn’t. They kept battling and really gave it a go in the second half.
“It’s another three points on the board for us, so that’s four from four. I can’t complain at that.”
The Ladies are back on the road next week when they make the trip to Larkfield, looking to continue their perfect start to the campaign.
