Lydd Ladies travelled to Faversham yesterday for a later-than-usual kick-off, meaning the game was played under the floodlights. Despite a goalless first half, Lydd’s persistence and attacking quality eventually paid off as they secured an impressive 3-0 victory.
Lydd made a bright start, creating numerous chances through excellent passing and intelligent movement off the ball. However, despite their early dominance, the visitors were unable to find the breakthrough, with efforts going narrowly wide or being denied by some good goalkeeping.
Faversham threatened near the end of the first half, coming close to taking the lead. However, a brave goal-line save from Harris kept the scores level and ensured the teams went into the break at 0-0.
An injury to Conceicao saw Phillips introduced, and her energy added another dimension to Lydd’s play. Despite continuing to apply pressure, the visitors could not find a way through a determined Faversham defence before half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Lydd pushing the hosts back and searching for the opening goal. Tanner fired narrowly over, while Williams sent an effort just wide as the pressure continued to build.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 55 minutes. A throw-in down the right found Lloyd, who battled past her defender before reaching the byline. Her cross caused confusion between the goalkeeper and defender, and with Williams ready to pounce, a Faversham defender inadvertently turned the ball into her own net.

The goal settled Lydd, who continued to control proceedings and look for further opportunities.
On 66 minutes, Lloyd was at it again. Showing excellent determination and skill, she beat three defenders before pulling the ball back for Conceicao, who finished confidently past the goalkeeper at the near post to double Lydd’s advantage.

Lydd continued to threaten, and with three minutes remaining, they added a third to cap an impressive performance.
A ball found Williams down the left, and some excellent combination play with Tanner created the opportunity for Williams to deliver a cross into the box. The Faversham goalkeeper fumbled the ball, allowing Lloyd to react quickest and score her first goal for Lydd Ladies.

Manager’s Reaction – Andy Lane
Reflecting on the performance, manager Andy Lane was pleased with his side’s overall display and their patience in breaking down a resilient Faversham team.
“A good all-round performance today. We could have been very comfortable early on if we’d put our chances away, but the players stayed patient and kept plugging away.
“It was a bit harsh on Faversham that we finally scored from an own goal. Some of our build-up play was brilliant.
“I’m just as pleased with the clean sheet. Faversham were quick on the break, and the defence needed to maintain their concentration throughout the game to keep the hosts at bay.”
The victory was a reward for Lydd’s persistence, attacking intent and defensive discipline. After creating plenty of opportunities in the first half, the visitors remained patient and eventually found the goals their performance deserved.
With three goals, a clean sheet and Lloyd opening her account for the club, it was a positive afternoon under the floodlights for Lydd Ladies.
