18.04.17: Weekend Review. One to forget! Two defeats, 3-1 at home to Bridon Ropes and 6-3 away at K Sports meant a blank weekend point wise. Going 1-0 down early on to a deflected goal, Lydd rallied with goals from Matt Collins, Matt Burdon and Reece Mortimer before the hosts scored their second to lead 3-2 at half time. Weather permitting, Lydd Town face third placed Bearsted this weekend. Bearsted are currently fourth in the form league table having won four of their last six games. THREE ON THE BOUNCE AS JOE NETS TWICE!
03/11/12: Lydd Town 3 Lewisham Borough 2
Lydd Town made it three wins on the bounce as their cup form transferred to the league today.
Two goals from young Joe Lester (pictured) - his first for the club - sealed the victory, in what was Lydd's first home league win of the season.
There was also a first Lydd goal from Jordan Miller who got the goals started, by netting from six yards inside of three minutes. But the Lydders made it hard for themselves, by twice throwing away their lead. They also missed a series of chances in the second half with Dan Fisk, Alex Coyne and Dan Shearing all having chances, with Fisk also hitting the post.
MORE CUP JOY FOR IN FORM LYDDERS!
27/10/12: Staplehurst 0 Lydd Town 2
Lydd made it two cup wins on the bounce with a fine win against Kent County Premier League leaders Staplehurst Monarchs in the Weald of Kent Cup.
It was always going to be a tough fixture, but Lydd's invicta league fitness came through as, after a goalless 90 minutes, goals from Simon Ewins and Dan Shearing sealed the tie in extra time. Shearing's first goal for the club was one to remember as he saw the keeper off his line from just inside the visiting half and superbly lobbed him to make the result safe. Lydd now meet Canterbury Reserves in the next round.
LEAGUE CUP SUCCESS FOR LYDDERS!
20/10/12: Lydd Town 3 Crockenhill 0
Ryan Smith's (pictured) first goal since rejoining the club helped Lydd on their way to their first home win of the season - and at the same time saw them progress to the last 8 of the league cup.
Lydd were comfortable throughout with their visitors not managing a shot at goal of any significance. Despite Lydd's dominance at the back they didn't create too much going forward, but the move of the half meant that Lydd went in front at the interval. Jordan Miller and Dan Fisk combined to release Jack Tanner, whose cross was turned in by Alex Coyne. The second half allowed Lydd to play some super football and Smith scored from a Tanner corner with 20 minutes to go and then Rocky Hayles scored a 25 yarder in the last 10 minutes to seal a fine victory.
18/10/12: CHANGING FACES AT THE CLUB!
There has been some recent transfer activity at the club over the last week or so. The club welcome the returning Ryan Smith, along with Rocky Hayles, Joe Lester and Buster Beaney. Matt Hadlum also arrives from Ashford United and will be a great addition to the squad - whilst going the other way is forward Kieran Byrne, who had a brief spell at Ashford last season. Charlie Partridge has also dropped a level - signing for Kent County Premier side Bromley Green.
SLOPPY LYDD THROW AWAY ANOTHER LEAD!
13/10/12: Rusthall 4 Lydd Town 2
Lydd Town again allowed themselves to lose a lead as they conceded 2 second half goals in quick succession gifting an unimpressive Rusthall side a simple victory.
On an awful pitch, Lydd were never going to be able to play football, but after Ray Hostler and Kieran Byrne (pictured) had given them the lead, they will be disappointed about not being able to shut out the home side. Lydd's day was summed up by a goalkeeping error and an unfortunate deflection - presenting Rusthall with a grateful three points.
DEFENSIVE ERRORS COST DOMINANT LYDD!
29/09/12: Lydd Town 1 Seven Acre & Sidcup 2
Kieran Byrne's (left) second half strike was not enough to gain Lydd anything out of a game that they will be wondering how they didn't win.
Lydd Town dominated the opening twenty minutes which probably should've seen them three up, with Charlie Partridge having two great chances in quick succession. But two defensive errors gave Sidcup a fortunate lead, with first Jordan Miller stumbling with the ball in front of goal and then Ray Hostler misjudging a cross presenting the visitors with their second. New signing Joe Lester created the Lydd goal as his cross was met by Alex Coyne with Byrne netting the rebound following a keeper save. Miller then skied a great chance from 4 yards as Lydd missed another chance. Lydd will definitely wonder how they have lost a game against a team who created little. Lydd again found themselves unprotected, this time by referee Waters, as Lester was victim of an elbow to the head resulting a nasty lump and cut appearing on the side of his head.
SKIPPER'S DOUBLE RESTORES WINNING WAYS!
22/09/12: Meridian 0 Lydd Town 2
A double from the returning skipper Dan Fisk (pictured) meant that Lydd restored themselves back to winning ways and continued their fine away form.
Lydd dominated the game from start to finish and thought they had taken the lead after 15 minutes, but Darren Winfield's effort was ruled out for offside. Charlie Partridge also had a couple of chances when put through, but despite the pressure, Lydd had to wait until three minutes before the half-time whistle to go in front - Kieran Byrne's pinpoint cross was superbly headed home by Fisk. Meridian didn't threaten at all in the the second half and Lydd's patience was rewarded when Jordan Miller's deep 65th minute cross was headed back across goal for Fisk to tap home for his second. Special mention should go to Meridian's keeper who had a fine game throughout - in particular to deny Byrne twice in the second half with two superb saves.
POOR LYDD FALL TO UNATTRACTIVE CROCKS!
15/09/12: Lydd Town 1 Crockenhill 4
A woeful performance from Lydd Town meant they got what they deserved with a result that said more about them than it did the opposition.
Crockenhill won't be the best team that Lydd will play this season - but they made them look like world beaters as Lydd put in their worse display from start to finish. Lydd were beaten by two long balls and that combined with some basic defensive errors condemned their misery. Two bad challenges from their unsavoury opponents, left the unprotected Lydders with two bad injuries - including a fractured ankle for the unlucky Wes Foord. Pat Coyne's (pictured) late goal did nothing to lighten the mood.
WINNIE PENALTY SEALS WIN AS 3 SEE RED!
08/09/12: Orpington 0 Lydd Town 2
A Darren Winfield penalty and a second goal in two games for Alex Coyne gave Lydd an excellent three points and continued their unbeaten away form.
Lydd were a goal up at half-time when Coyne latched onto a rebound after a fine strike by Winfield was parried. The victory was sealed when the superb Wes Foord was brought down in the box by the home keeper and Winfield converted the spot kick 15 minutes from time.
An eventful game also saw three red cards. Two for the home side, both for dissent and one for the Lydders with the unfortunate Kieran Sanger also being dismissed. The red card was not enough to sour the mood though after an excellent three points.
LATE LYDD SHOW EARNS SPIRITED POINT!
01/09/12: Bridon Ropes 2 Lydd Town 2
Two goals in the last few minutes earned Lydd a superb point away at Bridon Ropes today.
Alex Coyne thundered home four minutes into stoppage time to equalise after skipper Dan Fisk had seen his spot kick hit the post.
Bridon had taken a 16th minute lead in what was a poor first half Lydd display and when they hit Lydd on the break to score with five minutes remaining it looked like Lydd would be leaving empty handed. But with a minute of normal time remaining Mark Read put in a great ball for Wes Foord to score his first goal of the season with a fine header. Joe Neilson was pushed leaving the referee no option but to award Lydd a late pen but following the miss, it was Coyne who smashed home from the edge of the area to secure a great comeback.
SET-PIECE ASHFORD SCRAP TO VICTORY!
28/08/12: Lydd Town 1 Ashford United 3
A much improved performance from Lydd Town saw them unfortunate to not gain something from their wealthy neighbours.
Lydd created the better chances throughout the game with the Ashford keeper much the busier.
Lydd took the lead after just two minutes when Billy Somerville rifled an unstoppable shot at the very edgy Ashford keeper. Ashford ended up leading at half-time when they scored in quick succession from a corner and then from a dubious free-kick, where an initial Ashford foul had been missed.
Lydd then missed a crucial penalty on the stroke of half time when Kieran Byrne hit the post and then a nasty tackle from the Ashford skipper gave the game a different twist which the referee unfortunately struggled to control.
Wes Foord missed a great chance in the second half whilst Byrne got a good save from the visiting keeper - whilst Matt Burt in the home goal continued to spend the second half as a spectator.
Ashford secured the victory in the 90th minute with a "penalty" right at the death. A disappointing decision with clearly no contact between goalkeeper and player.
